Web Application Engineer
BermiLabs is a Barcelona based company dedicated to providing top-notch web applications for Startups and corporations using the Akelos PHP Framework.
We’re looking for a smart and creative developer who is truly excited about the web and new technologies, who codes for the excitement of building something useful and fun, and who loves to collaborate in teams!
You should be comfortable working remotely, as we use to remote ourselves. A self starter who can take responsibility and run with it. A curious individual who loves the accomplishment of solving tough problems.
Where should you be? Our core team and HQ is based on the Maresme Centre de Negocis overlooking beautiful Mediterranean beaches and is a five-minute walk from the Mataró (Barcelona) train station, but location is not critical, as we’re comfortable with remote work as long you can visit us from time to time.
Qualifications include:
- Real experience developing web applications using PHP, Ruby or Python during at least 3 years
- Mastering PHP5, JavaScript, CSS and XHTML
- Real experience and knowledge of Unit Testing
- Solid understanding and practical experience in Object Oriented Design and Design Patterns
- Ability to communicate complex issues to people not specialized in technical areas
- Eager to work in an informal environment, with little supervision and proactively as well as in remote teams
- Relational database design theory and SQL query languages
- Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
- Flexible, committed and punctual
- Competent using Linux/OSX, svn/git, trac, xdebug
We also value people who:
- Have experience in scaling up & load balancing servers
- Master Ruby on Rails
- Follow Getting Real methodology
- Actively collaborate in Open Source projects
- Have usability and aesthetic criterion
- Have experience with MySQL clusters
- Know one of more of these languages: Python, ObjectiveC, erlang, C, C++, ActionScript, Perl, Java, smalltalk…
- Know how to use well Photoshop/Fireworks/Illustrator
